We're seeking qualified applicants to fill the Preschool Teacher position. This (10) month position provides learning activities for preschool children; establishes and enforces basic rules to maintain classroom order, promotes physical, mental, and social development through games, arts, crafts, music, and field trips. A successful candidate will have great interpersonal skills, and the ability to discuss the development of children with parents and plan assignments for Preschool Aides. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Designs and implements a mix of educational and recreational activities to fulfill all preschool children's physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs. • Supervises children's behaviors, communication, and involvement. • Adheres to staff-to-student ratios. • Follows established policies, procedures, interactions, and disciplinary issues. • Safeguards the health and safety of children in the program through regular health checks. • Confirms that toys and equipment meet safety standards for children. • Administration of food and food service materials. • Reports incidents and follows emergency protocols. • Interacts with parents, staff, and school site personnel, communicating and attending team meetings. • Other essential job functions relevant to the position and department assignment may be carried out.
The Ashburn Preschool Program is in operation from Monday to Friday, with sessions running either from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The regular Preschool Teacher role includes supplementary planning time, amounting to a total of 32.5 hours each week, spanning from August through June.
Please include all employment and volunteer experience working with or supervising children in childcare, recreation, and educational settings. As this center is currently in the final stages of preparation, candidates who have not used the STREAMin3 curriculum previously will begin in April 2025 and candidates with STREAMin3 experience will begin in August 2025. The April 2025 start date allows for a comprehensive training period before the start of the fall school year.
Key Details: • Start Date:April 2025. The focus is on receiving all necessary training before the start of the school year. • Duration:The position is a 10-month, part-time role. You will work approximately 7-9 weeks from April until the end of the current school year (typically May or June). • Leave:Following the end of the school year, there will be a leave of absence (LWOP - Leave Without Pay) for the summer months, until the new school year resumes in the fall. • Full School Year: The position will resume in the fall when the new school year begins.
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field and Six (6) months of programmatic experience with children.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • One-year programmatic experience, including previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
Must undergo criminal background and Child Protective Services (CPS) background checks. It is required to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid within 30 days of employment. Within 30 days of being hired, and then annually thereafter, employees must pass the TB test. Have or take OSHA (Bloodborne pathogens) training within 30 days of hire. MAT/EMAT training within 90 days of hire. An annual sworn disclosure statement or affirmation must be completed, disclosing any criminal convictions or pending criminal charges. Must be physically able to keep up with participants and lift 50 pounds.
