A Physical Education Teacher is needed for the 2022/2023 academic year. This position instructs children in PreK, Junior Kindergarten, and Senior Kindergarten. The Physical Education Teacher functions under the supervision of the Early Childhood Center Director and has direct contact with immediate faculty, staff, children, parents, and volunteers.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Planning, supervising, and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum in accordance with the philosophy of Brookside School.
- Preparing a daily, well-planned environment with appropriate, meaningful, activities that stimulate children’s involvement and learning.
- Facilitating children’s learning and development in a non-directive, positive, and flexible manner, knowing when and how to step in, shift gears, and adapt activities to promote social, emotional, and physical growth.
- Gearing the program, expectations, and responses to the needs of individual children with concern for their interests, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, special talents, and individual style.
- Interacting with all children and their families with dignity and respect and maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Assessing and keeping records of children’s progress, conducting parent/teacher conferences, preparing progress reports, keeping parents abreast of curricular updates, and collaborating with families to support individual students.
- Serving on at least two Brookside committees.
- Attending faculty, team, and committee meetings as well as Open Houses.
- Providing opportunities and encouraging parental school involvement.
- Participating in recommended in-service and seeking out opportunities for professional growth.

Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field.
- Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate with Early Childhood Specialization preferred.
- Prior Early Childhood Teaching experience.
- Ability to teach physical education to PreK through Senior Kindergarten.
- High energy level with the ability to relate to young children, colleagues and families.
- Demonstrate a clear commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.
