CAMPUS DESCRIPTION: Jefferson Community College, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, is located in the city of Watertown, New York, on the scenic Black River, approximately 60 miles north of Syracuse. Our 90-acre campus is within 10 minutes of the Fort Drum U.S. Army installation and within 30 minutes of numerous regional activities and attractions, the 1000 Islands Region and along Lake Ontario. The College offers 30+ associate degrees and certificates for career preparation or transfer; local access to bachelor's and advanced degrees through partner institutions; lifelong learning through workshops and seminars; and cultural enrichment opportunities for the entire Watertown/Fort Drum region.
CHILDCARE DIRECTOR: The Faculty Student Association of Jefferson Community College, Inc. is conducting a search for a full time, 12 months, Childcare Director. The Childcare Director is responsible for the overall administration of Jefferson Campus Care. The Childcare Director is supervised by the Executive Director of Accounting and Auxiliary. Jefferson Campus Care is a licensed child care facility accommodating up to forty children, toddlers through preschool aged are served and are primarily children of students and faculty on campus. The Childcare Director is responsible for the day to day safety and well-being of all children enrolled in the program. The position oversees an agreement with the Watertown City School district to serve a Universal Pre-Kindergarten program for three and four year old children. The center is open from mid-August through mid-June; with the Childcare Director working 12 months. The Childcare Director plays an integral role in implementing the philosophy that guides the experiences for the children based upon the belief that early childhood should be a time of fun, warmth, security, exploring, and discovery. The curriculum meets the needs of the NYS Early Learning Standard using Creative Curriculum.
Maintain fiscal responsibility including budget, tuition, grants, and reporting.
Hire and supervise teachers, staff, substitutes, work study students. Supervise and schedule interns from the Early Childhood program to complete observations and fieldwork.
Promote collaborative relationships with families
Strong written and oral communication skills
Develop family engagement and participation
Oversee work related to program licensing, NAEYC accreditation, and scheduled inspections
Create and communicate annual program goals and the assessment of the program goals and employees.
Develop and sustain partnership within the College community and the community at large.
Complete grant applications as they become available.
Must be proficient in Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
Proficient with computer skills

To be qualified as a director, a person must possess either:
a Bachelor’s degree, including or in addition to 12 credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field; one year of full-time teaching experience in a child care center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program; and one year of experience supervising staff in a child care program or a related field of work; or
a New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential; one year of full-time teaching experience in a child care center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program; and one year of experience supervising staff in a child care program or a related field of work; or
a Child Development Associate Credential; and two years of experience related to caring for children, one of which must be related to caring for infants or toddlers; or
9 college credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field, with a plan of study leading to an Infant and Toddler Child Care and Education Credential, Infant Toddler Child Development Associate Credential, other Office-recognized credential specific to the infant/toddler developmental period or an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field; and two years of experience related to caring for children, one of which must be related to caring for infants or toddlers.
