The Brindle Foundation, a small family foundation based in Santa Fe, New Mexico with a focus on Early Childhood seeks nominations and applications for the position of Executive Director.
Known in the nonprofit, public, and philanthropic sectors in New Mexico for helping to hold babies, prenatal to three, at the center of needed policies, programs and changes to support early childhood, Brindle embraces a personal, community informed, and caring approach to its grantmaking. With enduring commitment, the foundation has successfully seeded and supported the capacity building of many grassroots initiatives that have gone on to transform the landscape of early childhood in the state.
The Brindle Foundation was established by Nan Schwanfelder and her sons, Kevin and Craig in 2002. Reflecting the family’s belief in the science of early brain development and commitment to the social justice mandate that all babies deserve an equal start in life, the foundation began its Early Opportunities Initiative a few years after its founding. With the assistance and stewardship of Foundation Manager Kim Straus, this grew over the years to account for 95% of the Foundation’s current giving. Brindle’s programming has included support for place-based direct services in counties around Santa Fe, as well as state-wide systemic change, coalition building, and advocacy to ensure and support conditions throughout New Mexico for a healthy and happy start to life. Small foundation grants outside of the Early Opportunities Initiative support other family social impact interests in and outside of New Mexico.
Following the retirement of its foundation manager earlier this year, Brindle engaged in a period of reflection and planning for its leadership and is pleased to announce the search for the newly established Executive Director role. The Executive Director will be a seasoned mission-driven professional committed to working in partnership with the trustees to improve social, systemic, and environmental conditions for babies in New Mexico. S/he/they will steward best practices in grantmaking and foundation governance and help to advance the craft of the family’s giving through effective communication, facilitation, and synthesis of insight and information. S/he/they will represent Brindle externally with grace, humility, and integrity -- nurturing existing relationships and building new ones. S/he/they will be inspired and energized by creative and new ideas. The Executive Director will also bring organized and disciplined leadership to the work of the foundation, including a commitment to bringing data and research to collaborative decision making.
The ideal candidate will have a strong connection and commitment to communities in New Mexico. S/he/they will have a proven track record of leadership and managerial experience ideally in a philanthropic setting and will demonstrate the ability to work across all sectors to advance social good.
