About the Nevada State College School of Education
The School of Education (SOE) is an exciting place to be! More than 600 undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students are pursuing licensure programs in elementary, special, & secondary education as well as speech-language pathology. In response to a statewide shortage of PreK-12 educators, NSC has made a strong commitment to building out the School of Education (SOE). NSC’s School of Education has gone “all in” for helping the State of Nevada to locally grow more of its own K-12 teachers. Teacher Academies are being built in high schools. Stronger articulation agreements with Nevada’s two year colleges are being forged. Extensive systems to support the success of SOE students have been implemented. A 2.5 million dollar HSI grant, the first HSI grant awarded to a Nevada institution of higher education, supports the recruitment of K-12 teaching candidates of Hispanic descent. New academic programs are also being added. The SOE is poised to launch a masters degree in speech-language pathology, NSC’s first advanced degree program, in the fall of 2019. The SOE is also working toward creating a baccalaureate-level inclusive (EC/ECSE) early childhood education program; this program will be the first inclusive early childhood program in the State of Nevada. The college has raised the matching funds necessary to obtain legislative approval for a School of Education building that will include a speech-language clinic and be the home for the early childhood center.

About Nevada State College
Founded in 2002, NSC is a four-year public college located on a developing 512-acre campus in the foothills of Henderson, Nevada (adjacent to Las Vegas). Our faculty and staff members enjoy the rare opportunity to mold the college as it continues to grow into a cornerstone of higher education in Southern Nevada. NSC emphasizes high-quality instruction, exemplary student support, evidence-based practices, and innovation as a means to more efficient, effective outcomes in all departments across campus.
NSC serves approximately 4,900 students who are highly diverse and largely underserved—a majority of our students are first generation, racial/ethnic minorities, parents, and/or returning students. We seek applicants who are passionate about working with this promising student population and collaborating with faculty and staff across departments to make a lasting impact in developing our young institution.
