This position is responsible for general supervision and management of the classroom; assisting with planning, developing, and evaluating developmentally appropriate curriculum implementation for children and assisting the Early Childhood Center Manager with records maintenance, curriculum development and supervision of all student and part time employees. The lead teacher will work collaboratively with the academic affairs division and the Child Development program manager to mentor and supervise interns from all collaborating academic departments. This is a part time position with a maximum of 28 hours. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from August through May
ESSENTIALJOBDUTIESANDKEYRESPONSIBILITIES 1. Teach and engage in activities with children as a lead teacher and ensure coverage in classrooms in the absence of teaching personnel. 2. Act as director designee per DCFS compliance. 3. Develop written program curriculum goals and weekly lesson plans for implementation and assessment. 4. Develop and document screenings and assessment of learning through individual portfolios for all full-time children and children with documentation of special needs while maintaining a high degree of discretion dealing with confidential information. 5. Provide individual guidance and assessments on children through screening, observations and portfolios, develop and maintain effective partnerships with parents to promote each child’s optimum growth and development. 6. Create and maintain stimulating and aesthetically pleasing learning environments in the classroom and outdoor play areas that meets the standards of NAEYC accreditation and ensure maintenance of classroom environments for safety and sanitation and ensure sufficient and appropriate supplies and materials are available. 7. Conduct daily health check of each child; insure prompt, appropriate response to acuity while maintaining high degree of discretion dealing with confidential information. 8. Attend and assist in facilitating in-service and activities for employees and families. 9. Observe and assist in training and mentoring of interns, student employees, and volunteers performing service learning objectives in the classrooms, monitoring student /staff to insure their behavior and interactions with children are supervised and consistent with best practices and appropriate to the child’s developmental needs. 10. Participate in the goals & objectives of the college and Early Childhood Center. 11. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS 1. Bachelor’s Degree. 2. Must be Director Qualified (a minimum of 21 credit hours in Child Development/Early Childhood Education (ECE, CDev, EC courses). 3. Pass medical exam as required by DCFS. 4. Pass background check and clearance. 5. Knowledge of preschool programs, child development and DCFS regulations 6. Two (2) years of experience in an equivalent position or responsibility. 7. Good personal computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. 8. Must be 21 years of age. 9. Must be available to work between the hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education. 2. Gateways to Opportunity Level I Illinois Director Credential 3. Gateways to Opportunity early care and education (ECE) credential.
Additional Salary Information: $20.41 per hour
