Position Summary: The Department of Human Development and Family Studies, College of Human Environmental Sciences at The University of Alabama seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track appointment. Sought are applicants with a promising record of research and teaching in the field of early childhood education, early childhood development, and/or child life.
The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating, conducting, and publishing research, including procuring internal and external funding; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, including courses in the early childhood education teacher certification track and/or child life; mentoring graduate students; and engaging in service at the campus, community, state and/or national level. The successful candidate also will support the department's initiatives in distance education with possible online instruction.
Qualifications: Required qualifications include a doctoral degree in Human or Child Development and Family Studies, Early Childhood Education or an equivalent field; evidence of scholarly work, including a strong research record, and/or participation in grant submissions or success at grant funding; strong interpersonal skills, including effective oral and written communication skills; and teaching experience in higher education.
Preferred qualification include teaching experience in a Birth to Pre-K program; a state teaching certification to teach in a Birth to Pre-K program and/or the credential of a Certified Child Life Specialist; knowledge of NAEYC Higher Education Standards and NAEYC Accreditation, edTPA, and/or Quality Rating Improvement Systems; experience with instructional technologies (e.g., using TaskStream to create E-portfolios); and/or training in Infant Mental Health.
