Job Description
The International Test and Evaluation Association (ITEA) is seeking an Executive Director for its $1.3M budget, 5 staff member, 2,000 member, 26 Chapter organization. The position oversees all aspects of programs and operations for the organization. The qualified individual will administer operations and staff, manage all financial aspects of the association, implement the recently adopted strategic plan for the organization, and ensure fulfillment of ITEA’s mission, vision, strategies, and action plans. The Executive Director has extensive communication with association leadership, members, customers and other external audiences in the test and evaluation community and must be fully capable of establishing and cultivating existing and new relationships with the organization’s key constituencies.

Key Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Establish a highly visible presence, both internally and externally, in the test and evaluation (T&E) community that creates an effective and cohesive environment where staff members, volunteers and leaders maintain a positive influence on the field of test and evaluation
  • Lead, motivate and inspire the Association staff members as well as large core of volunteers
  • Exhibit strong diplomatic and consensus-building skills combined with demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Effectively cultivates long-term relationships with key corporate and government partners
  • Manage all aspects of the organization’s financial system, including oversight of accounts receivables, accounts payables, payroll, taxes, investment portfolios, and overall compliance with government and audit requirements
  • Manage the organization’s human resource functions and benefit programs
  • Maintain existing, and develop new, revenue-generating programs for the organization
  • Exhibit strong oral and verbal communication skills and develop effective financial and programmatic reporting to Association leadership
  • Facilitate and manage the strategic planning process, including planned leadership reviews and reporting of objective/action plan progress at pre-determined intervals
  • Oversee the following key Association management areas: financial management; event management (6-8 workshops/conferences per year); education programming (short course and online offerings); exhibit and sponsorship management; corporate/individual membership development; chapter relations; technical journal production (outsourced quarterly publication); network/IT systems; membership database management


Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Masters Degree preferable (Business, Finance, Marketing, or related field desirable)
  • Minimum ten years of direct professional experience, preferably with direct oversight of key association areas including: finance and budgeting, strategic planning, events and exhibits, sponsorships programs, and membership marketing/development
  • Previous knowledge and experience with not-for-profit organizations associated with a technical field, such as engineering, test, evaluation, acquisition or defense contracting, are desirable
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and database skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, QuickBooks Pro) are essential
  • High degree of flexibility, self-motivation, and ability to work independently
  • Must be process-oriented, attentive to details, and deadline driven
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a high degree of tact and diplomacy
  • Must demonstrate self-initiative and exercise independent judgment and functioning
  • Knowledge of association governance and Board of Director relations preferred
  • Travel of approximately 40 days per year required
